Mrs. Laura Biedermann
Mrs. Laura Margerta Matilda Mueller Biedermann was born February 26, 1898, in Garnavillo Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She was the daughter of F. Henry and Justina, nee Reuter, Mueller. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith March 27, 1898, in St. Peter’s church in Garnavillo and confirmed March 31, 1912, in St. Paul’s church.
In 1917, Laura was married to John G. Biedermann. They lived on various farms in that area until they bought a farm north of Volga City, where they spent the greater part of their married life.
In August, 1959, they retired and moved into their home on Main Street in Volga City.
When the St. Paul Lutheran Church was organized in 1950 in Volga city, Laura became a charter member. She served as first president of the Ladies Aid in the newly formed congregation. She was also a member of the Legion-Auxiliary and the Highland Goodwill Society.
On Thursday evening, February 1, 1962, while visiting with a friend; she was suddenly stricken with a fatal heart attack. She attained the age of 63 years, 11 months and 6 days. Her husband, John, preceded her in death in 1960, also a son, Earl, and an infant son.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Derryl (Helen) Leonhart, Elgin; four sons, Lloyd and Le Roy, Volga City; Oliver, Bellflower, Cal.; Louis, Davenport; fifteen grandchildren, one sister, Marie Mueller, two brothers, Oliver and Valmah Mueller, Garnavillo; and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Gill chapel to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 1:30 P.m. The Rev. A.J. Bringle, pastor officiated. Mrs. Fred Gernand, organist, accompanied the vocalist, Gary Jellings. Mrs. William Larson and Mrs. R.C. Leete were flower bearers.
Pallbearers, nephews of the deceased, were Raymond Werges Jr., McGregor; Donald Risk, independence; Melvin Borcherding, Olin; Dean Biedermann, Dubuque; Harold Mueller and Arlyn Hempeler, Garnavillo. Burial was in the Garnavillo Cemetery.
