Harry, son of the late Halsten and Helena Groth, was born May 6, 1895, in Clayton county, and passed away June 26, 1950, at the age of fifty-five years.
He was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church. He lived on the Groth homestead in Clayton county until 1940, when he quit farming due to failing health and made his home with his brother, Arthur, near Decorah, where he died from a heart ailment.
He served in the overseas armed forces for 18 months during World War I.
He leaves to mourn his departure one sister Alma (Mrs. Albert Erickson) of Erskine, Minn., and two brothers, Selmer of Elgin, and Arthur of Decorah. His sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jens Halverson, preceded him in death only three months ago.
Funeral services were conducted at the East Clermont Lutheran Church Friday, June 30, by the Rev. R. A. Ofstedal, of Decorah, and burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. The Helof Holm Post 1977 of the V.F.W. of Decorah, accompanied by the color guards of the Elgin Post 352, American Legion, was in charge of the military rites. The pallbearers at the service were Paul, Harold and Evald Skarshaug, Elmer Meyer, Sidney Halverson and Alton Erickson.
