Guttenberg- Frances Cecelia Steffen was born Sept. 10, 1920, in North Buena Vista, daughter of Louis and Margaret Welty Riniker. She died Thursday, May 20, 1999, in the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a short illness.
Frances received her education in North Buena Vista and farmed with her family for many years. She married Reynold Steffen on Nov. 10, 1943, at Immaculate Conception Church in North Buena Vista.
Survivors include her husband, Reynold; seven daughters, Mrs. Carolyn (Clem) Ryan of Swisher, Mrs. Patricia (Ronnie) Strait of Preston, Mrs. Madonna (Don) Scherbring of Guttenberg, Mrs. Joyce (Bob) Hillers of Colesburg, Mrs. Irene (Dan) Deppe of Jordan, Minn., Mrs. Doris (Mark) Vaske of Durango and Mrs. Lynn (Joe) Hermsen of New Vienna; six sons, Vernon (Chris) of Racine, Wis., Dave (Connie) of Garber, Erwin (Dianne) of Dyersville, Merl (Nancy) of Knoxville, Dale of Teeds Grove and Joe of Goose Lake; two brothers, Otto (Charlene) Riniker of New Vienna and Bernard (Rita) Riniker of Epworth; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Riniker and Coletta Riniker, both of Manchester; 25 granddaughters; 25 grandsons; 21 great-grandchildren; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary; two sisters, Rosina Loney and Anna Riniker; and four brothers, Jake, Art, Steve and Andrew Riniker.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church, Guttenberg, by Monsignor John McClean. Burial: will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Luxemburg. Visitation: 2 to 9 p.m. today, Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, where a wake service begins at 4 p.m.
