Garnavillo- Donald William Edward "Don" Lamker, 83, of Garnavillo, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, by the Rev. L. R. Lechner. Burial: Garnavillo Community Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Garnavillo and one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
He is survived by three daughters, Dianne (Ed) Uriell of Elkader, Donna (Norb) Borcherding of Dubuque and Dixie (Brent) Lokensgard of El Cajon, Calif.; two sons, Don A. (Jessica) Lamker of Savage, Minn., and David (Carol) Lamker of Garnavillo; special friend, Idayne Bernhard of Garnavillo; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Duane (Marilyn) Lamker of Monona; and brother-in-law, Robert Lamp of Phillipsburg, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 1996; parents, Alvin and Cora Lamker; one brother, Lloyd Lamker; two grandsons, Michael Borcherding and Thomas Uriell; and two sisters-in-law, Verda Lamker and Gerry Lamp.
Don was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Monona, the son of Alvin and Cora (Breitsprecher) Lamker. He graduated from Monona High School; served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in the Aleutian islands. On Feb. 5, 1947, he was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Kregel at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. Don farmed south of Garnavillo and drove school bus for over 30 years. Upon retirement he drove gravel truck for several years. Hew was a member of Clay-Gar American Legion Post 723, and served on the ASCS board. Don enjoyed bowling, playing cards, sports and road trips with his many friends.
