Postville Review, Fri., 18 Mar. 1898.
Phebe White was born in South Hero, Vt., June 6th, 1833. At the age of sixteen her mother died, leaving her with the care of a younger brother and sister and her aged father. In 1858 she was married to Daniel W. Gordon, of Grand Isle, Vt., and settled upon a farm, where in 1860, a daughter, their only child, was born. In 1865 they sold their home and came to Iowa, settling upon a farm near Volga City, where her husband died in 1874. In 1895 she sold her farm and moved with her daughter, Mrs. E. J. Mentzer, to Marion, Iowa, with whom she resided until the 11th day of March, 1898, when at the age of sixty-four years and nine months she turned upon her side saying, "I am tired and sleepy", closing her eyes in sleep that knows no awakening this side of the river. Her remains were brought to Volga City and laid by the side of those of her husband.
Farewell sister until we meet again
