Guttenberg- Sylvester W. Althoff, 67, died Monday afternoon in Guttenberg Municipal Hospital following a tractor accident that day. He had farmed many years in the Guttenberg area and was a retired John Deere Dubuque Works factory worker.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; four daughters, Ruth Eivins of Marksburg, Jean Voss of Elkport, Mary Hogan of Anamosa and Theresa Schmidt of Cascade; eight sons, John of Luxemburg, Paul of Minneapolis, Dan of Garber, David of Edgewood, Mark of Manassas, Va., Marvin of Colesburg, Joe at home, and Bill of Des Moines; two sisters, Verna Mae Henkels of Garnavillo and Mildred Zuercher of Garber; three brothers, Ambrose and Jim, both of McGregor, and Emil of Delhi; and 19 grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial: church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn's, where a wake service will be held at 8 p.m.
