Edgewood- John Monnahan, 73, died Sunday at Littleport. Body is at Rhines Funeral Home here, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Burial at Mederville.

John Michael Monnahan Sr., son of the late Michael and Mary Cox Monnahan, passed away after a short illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Howard De Sotel of Elkport.
Mr. Monnahan was born Oct. 12, 1879, and was baptized Nov. 23 in St. Joseph's church at Elkader, Iowa. He received his education in the rural schools of Fayette county.
He was married on July 25, 1902, to Miss Norma Kreig at Oelwein. Mrs. Monnahan passed away in 1924 leaving her husband with six children. He was both father and mother to his children until they were grown up.
He was a farmer most of his life in Clayton and Delaware county, until 1930 when he quit farming and went to make his home with his daughter Mildred (Mrs. Howard De Sotel).
He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Margaret Menge of Greeley; Mildred (Mrs. Howard De Sotel) of Elkport; Anna (Mrs. Truman Jensen) of Tekamah, Neb.; two sons, John Junior of Tacoma, Wash., and Francis of Alburnette, Iowa; 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Catherine Doran of Cedar Rapids, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, one grandson, his parents, five sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were held at the Rhines funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 with the Rev. Laurence Marshburn officiating. Burial was in the family lot in the Mederville cemetery. Pall bearers were Joe Madlom, Harry Fry, Arthur Wilkins, George Thompson,, Elmer Ashline and Marvin Waring. Music was furnished by Glenn Fobes accompanied by Miss Forward.
