Walter Franklin Scovel, 521 Fifth Avenue SE, a Cedar Rapids resident 16 years, died Friday following a long illness.
Born Sept. 23, 1879, at Stockton, Kan., he was married to Luyvenue Williams, May 19, 1951, in Cedar Rapids. Mr. Scovel had farmed in the Strawberry Point area 45 years before moving to Cedar Rapids. Mr. Scovel was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Edna May Hartbeck of Edgewood; a son, Howard Scovel of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Dlast of Denver; a brother, Harry Scovel of Clarksville; and three step-daughters, Helen Monohon, Abbie Becker and Viola Lane, all of Cedar Rapids.
Services: Turner Chapel East, Monday noon, conducted by Rev. Fred Gottwald. Burial: Mederville, where graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. Friends may call at the chapel.
