Monona- Harvey J. Debes, 86. Saturday, 11 a.m., Garden City United Methodist (white) Church. Visitation: 2-9 p.m. Friday at Schultz's, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday.

Harvey John Debes, born September 18, 1892, passed away at Postville Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 28 after being rushed there following a sudden illness that morning.

Services for Mr. Debes were held Saturday, March 31, 1979, at the Garden City United Methodist "White" Church with Rev. Carroll Brown officiating.

Delores Kammerer served as organist. A mens quartet, Harlan Hass, Jackson Turner, David Schlitter, and John Wachter, sang "Going Down The Valley" and "Beyond The Sunset".

Pallbearers were Gerald J. Carroll, Wayne Hendrickson, Frederick Heins, Robert Evans, Roger Swanson, and Leonard Pearson. Mr. Debes was laid to rest in the Monona Cemetery.

Harvey Debes, the son of August and Emma (Kline) Debes, was born in Farmersburg Township. He received his education in the rural Hawkeye School in Farmersburg Township. On October 12, 1895, he was baptized by Rev. H. Best at Prairie Evangelical Church.

Mr. Debes grew up and lived his entire life in this area and was a farmer until he retired and moved to Monona in 1942. He drove school buses for many years for both public and Catholic schools.

He was an active member of the Garden City United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens group in Monona. He enjoyed sharing with people and was quick to be of service whenever possible, usually giving rides to several people every day.

Harvey Debes was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William, and his twin brother Harry; four sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Zurcher Kishman, Mrs. Esther Marfilius, Mrs. Senda Busacker, and Miss Elizabeth Debes; and a niece, Mrs. Harriet Foels.

He is survived by three nephews and four nieces: Glendor and Herb Zurcher, Dayton Marfilius, Mrs. Ethel Carlson, Mrs. Irene Reinke, Mrs. Viola Schlitter and Mrs. Leila Ann Kilcher; and by 17 great-nephews and nieces, and a host of friends.
