On Thursday, May 8th occurred the death of Alexander Wood, long a familiar figure in this vicinity. He was born in County Cavin, Ireland, Feb. 26, 1826, came to America when about 15 years old.
He volunteered for service in the Mexican war and served three years. In 1845 he was married to Miss Mary Ann Boyce and they came to Read Township and have ever since made it their home.
Eleven children were born to this couple, of whom six with the mother are living, Mrs. Melissa Wareham, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mrs. Ida Finnegan, of Osterdock; Mrs. Hannah Boyce, of Hartford, S.D.; Mrs. Lily Butts, Rake, Ia.; Alexander, of Littleport and John, of Read.
The funeral was held at the congregational church on Sunday, Rev. G.W. Baxter officiating.
