Dorothy Laura Kregel Stohlmeyer, 89, of Ames, died March 1, 2013 at Israel Family Hospice House. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 7 at 10:30 AM at St Cecilia Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Ames Municipal Cemetery. A visitation will be Wednesday, March 6 from 5 to 8 PM with a vigil at 7:30 PM at Stevens Memorial Chapel.

Dorothy was born on February 14, 1924 in Guttenberg; the daughter of John and Margaret (Nigg) Kregel. Dorothy graduated high school from St Mary's in Guttenberg and furthered her education at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque as an X-ray technician. She married Dutch Stohlmeyer in Guttenberg on February 14, 1949 and they shared 56 years of marriage until his death on August 7, 2005.

Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking for her family, sewing, playing bridge, golf and dancing. Dorothy was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and St. Mary's Circle at St. Cecilia.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Michael Stohlmeyer; a sister Kathleen Zearley and a brother, Loras Kregel.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Marge (Mike) Fitzgerald, Amy (Greg) Davis of Newton and Joe (Kathy) Stohlmeyer of Ames; daughter-in-law, Maureen Stohlmeyer of Ames; 7 grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Conway of Cedar Rapids and Corine Pavich of Phoenix; brother, Tom Kregel of Ft. Dodge and numerous nieces and nephews.

As a show of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Cecilia Catholic Church or Israel Family Hospice House. Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames is assisting the family.
