Monona- George J. Wilker, 88, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Season's Hospice, Rochester, Minn., following a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Paul Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Glenn Leaf. Burial: St. Paul's Cemetery, Monona. Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Shultz's Funeral Home, Monona.
George was born April 30, 1912, the son of George and Minnie Harnack Wirkler. He received his education at the Clayton Center School. George was united in marriage to Irene Voelzke on Nov. 21, 1935, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. The couple owned and operated the Standard Oil Business from 1939 to 1974. George served on the church council of St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed doing woodworking.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie and husband Merle Gordon of Rochester, Minn.; three grandchildren, Darrel and husband Jim Knowlton of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Kristin and Husband Rick Sather of Appleton, Wis., and Tim Gordon of St. Louis Park, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Nick and George Knowlton and Andrew and Megan Sather.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Irene, who died Sept. 23, 1988.
