Clear Lake- Funeral services for Mathilda Appel, 97, will be held Saturday at 2:30 at the Carl Schultz Funeral Home, Monona. Mrs. Appel died Wednesday at Mason City Hospital, where she was taken Monday from Bethany Nursing Home, where she had been cared for three years.

Mrs. Appel was born May 28, 1859, in Sweden, later went to Germany and America. She spent the most of her life in the Monona vicinity.

She is survived by nine children, 28 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Her daughter, Mrs. Vera Banning, Mason City, will attend the services.

Services for Mrs. Mathilda Marie Appel, 97, were Saturday in the Schultz Funeral Home at Monona with the Rev. R. C. Schlueter officiating. Mrs. Appel died January 2 in Mason City Hospital. Survivors are five sons and four daughters which include Otto Appel and Mrs. Fred Reinke of Postville; 29 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Added by S. Ferrall: her maiden name was Carlson as per the 1987 obit of her daughter Louise (Appel) Reincke - Mrs. Fred Reinke in the Postville Herald obit. The surname is correctly spelled Reincke.
