Godfrey Bentien, a farmer who resides 1 1/2 miles west of Monona, accidentally shot himself Thursday morning of last week. He and his hired hand were out shooting chickens for dinner. One of the desired fowls took refuge under a corn crib. Bentien took the gun and started to crawl under the structure after it, when in some way the piece was discharged, the charge taking effect at his right temple. He was taken to the house and medical assistance summoned, but to no avail, for he died in a short time.

Death of Godfrey John Bentien occurred Thursday morning, 20 Aug. 1903. He was aged 31 years, 7 months and 22 days. He leaves a wife, the daughter of Aug. Kruse, and two children. Mr. Bentien is a nephew of Mrs. Henry Klutz of this place.

Accidentally Shot Himself.
Monona Leader—This morning (Aug 20) at 6 o’clock, on the farm 1˝ miles west of town. Godfrey John Bentien accidentally shot himself. With his man they were out shooting chickens for dinner, expecting threshers to be present at the dinner hour. The hired man had shot two chickens and another that was wanted took refuge under the corn crib. Mr. Bentien took the gun and crawled under the crib, drawing the gun with him. In some manner the trigger caught on a projecting rock and was discharged, the contents of the gun entering at the right temple. He was hauled out and taken to the house and medical aid was immediately called he lived about a half hour. Mr. Bentien was aged 31 years, 7 months and 22 days. He leaves a wife, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aug Kruse, and two children.
