Cedar Rapids Gazette, Sat., 20 Aug. 1994. (condensed).

The body of a former McGregor man, missing for a week, has been found on the Mount of the Holy Cross in west-central Colorado.

The body of Christian Burke, 21, son of William and Anne Burke of McGregor, was found Thursday at the 12,400 foot level of the Mount of the Holy Cross, about 1,400 feet below the summit.

Burke's roommates told authorities he had long wanted to hike up the mountain. Burke had planned a one day hike of the mountain and went alone. He did make it to the summit and signed the roster there.

Authorities were unsure as to the cause of death, but it is thought Burke may have been struck by lightning, causing him to fall. He had been cautioned about daily severe thunderstorms that plagued the area. Burke was reported missing by his roommates Aug. 11, three days after he began his hike.

Sean Burke said "Christian was outgoing, very ambitious, friendly, and was no novice in the mountains as he had been doing a lot of hiking".

Burke's body will be cremated. Services are pending.
