At her home in this city, on Sunday evening, Feb. 11, 1904, after a long sickness, occurred the death of Henrietta Steen, nee Freese, wife of Fred Steen.

Mrs. Steen was born June 16, 1829, at Neukirchen, Schleswig-Holstein, and was married to Fred Steen May 10, 1852. In 1857 they came to the United States, locating in Boardman township which was their home until they came to Elkader about 10 years ago.

Nine children were born to them, of whom three sons and two daughters are living. The daughters are Mrs. M. Reifers, of Emery, S.D., and Mrs. Geo. Kopp, of Communia; the sons, Jacob and John, of Boardman, and Martin, of Hopkinton.

The funeral was held at the Congregational church on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Braun, of Farmersburg, officiating. Many friends and old time neighbors were in attendance to show their respect for a good woman and mother. Interment in the East side cemetery.

~Note: The obit of her husband Fred (also posted on this obit board) gives full names of the living children. Her maiden name in his obit is given as Trefe.
