On Saturday afternoon at McGregor occurred the death of Edward Ryan, the venerable proprietor of the Ryan House, aged 78 years. Mr. Ryan had been in feeble health owing to his advanced age for several years, but only a short time ago did his decline become rapid.

He was born in the state of New York on December 13, 1823, coming to McGregor in 1860, where he first engaged in the mercantile business and later in a hotel in which he remained until death.

He was married in 1850 to Lydia Brandon who died in 1869. Five children born to them are also dead. He was married again to Eliza Stacy, sister of Mrs. David Livingood, of this place, who with one son, Shell, survives him.

Mr. Ryan in his capacity of serving the public at McGregor was well known to the people of Clayton county. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon under the auspices of the Odd Fellows and G.A.R., Mr. Ryan having spent several years in the service of his country during the civil war.
