Waterloo Courier, Thur., 20 March 1975.

Guttenberg-- Fire swept a cabin on Essman Island in the Mississippi River Wednesday and its tenant died.

Clayton County deputies said Walter Serenus Schmelzer, 24, apparently died of smoke inhalation. Preliminary investigation placed the cause of the fire on a cigarette.
