Peter H. Berns, Sr., 83, of Garnavillo, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, in his home after a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Richard Gaul. Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Garnavillo, with a wake service at 1 p.m.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Bries of Elkader, Judy Warren of Waterloo, Karen Kopecky of Marshalltown and Kathy Schutte of St. Olaf; three sons. Pete Jr. of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Fred of Elkader and Duane of Ankeny; two brothers, Louis of Monona and Alois of Garnavillo; and five sisters, Claudine McLane of Guttenberg, Laura Sudmeier of New Vienna, Clara Ann Neuhaus of Monona, Mary Lou Krapfl of New Vienna and Helene Sudmeier of Dubuque.
