Mrs. Marie Catherina Polkow passed away at her home, two miles south of Read, on Sunday, August 8th, 1915.
She was born on April 6, 1841, in Werdel [Werdohl] Province of Saxony, in the old Fatherland.In 1865 she was united in marriage to Gottfried Polkow. Mr. Polkow died in 1912. With her husband and two children Mrs. Polkow came to America two years after the Franco-Prussian War. Upon their arrival in this country they settled down in Read township, and here upon the homestead the deceased spent the zenith and the declining years of her life. Her last illness was of but short duration.
The deceased has four children; Mrs. Wm. Taake, Otto Polkow, Henry Polkow and Mrs. Herman Glawe. Anna, the wife of Joseph Hafke, died in 1908. The funeral was held Wednesday, August 11th, Rev. Athenstadt officiating.
