Mrs. Mary Reed died at the residence of her son-in-law, Thomas Higgins of Rock Valley, last week at the age of 86 years.

On Sunday, the 16th of February, Mrs. Mary Read died at the age of 87, at Rock Valley, Iowa, at the home of her son-in-law, Thomas Higgins. The latter formerly resided near this place.

Mrs. Read was one of the early settlers of Clayton county, having settled here with her late husband, Mr. J. Read, over forty years ago. Mrs. Read will be well remembered by a number of friends in this county as a most estimable lady, a good Christian and kind friends.

She was the mother of three daughters, Mrs. B. Sheridan, of Dubuque, who died several years ago; Mrs. Thomas Higgins, of Rock Valley; and Sister Mary Stella, of Davenport, Iowa. Her remains were brought to Garnavillo, and after the usual service in the Catholic church on Tuesday, were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.
