Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, North Buena Vista, IA
Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Buena Vista, IATo celebrate Joe's life friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Behr's Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at Immaculate Conception Church.
Joe was born on October 31, 1920 in North Buena Vista, IA, son of Joseph and Catherine (Cook) Hefel.
Joe attended school in Buena Vista and Guttenberg and then became a school teacher. He was drafted into US Army and served with them for 3 years during World War II. Joe married Margaret Breitbach on June 8, 1948, in Balltown, IA. Joe and Margaret owned The Atom, that was next to the Brass Rail and the Chateau which were collectively known as the ABC located where Swiss Valley is on Hwy 52. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the river. He was a member of the AMVets, VFW, and the American Legion. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandsons.
Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years: Margaret Hefel, a daughter: Jane Runde, Dubuque, Iowa, twin grandsons: Jacob Runde and Joseph Runde, Iowa City, Iowa
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters Lucille Jaeger, Marie Richard, Mildred Weber, Ann Lenz, and Verna Habel, 4 brothers Martin, Robert, Clarence and George Hefel, a son-in-law, Scott Runde
A Joseph Hefel memorial fund has been established.
