Elgin Echo, Thursday, 29 October 1908.
Mrs. Lars P. Larson, of Highland, died last week at La Crosse, Wisconsin, where she had submitted to a surgical operation. She underwent the ordeal and rallied from the effect of the anesthetic and was getting along nicely when she was seized with a hard spell of coughing, which caused an internal hemorrhage, from the effects of which she died. The remains were shipped home and Sunday appropriate services were held at the Highland church and internment made in the Cemetery there. She was a relative of Thomas and H. T. Knudtson of our city.

The remains of Mrs. Lars P. Larson, of Highland township, were brought here Friday evening from La Crosse. Last week Mrs. Larson went to a hospital at La Crosse for an operation. The operation was performed Thursday and was apparently successful. That afternoon she was taken with a fit of coughing and bursting a blood vessel, died before medical help could reach her. Her maiden name was Lena Olson. She is survived by her husband, two children and other relatives. The funeral was held Monday at the church in Highland township, the minister from Clermont officiating. It is a great bereavement to the family.
(Note: An apparent reference to Helena B. Larson, 1873 - 22 Oct. 1908, shown in WPA records as buried in Highland cemetery.)
