A Clayton County suicide is mentioned in the Elkader Register as follows: On Saturday last Mrs. Barney Holden, living in Read Township, near Moton, took Rough on Rats and died that night. The coroner was summoned and held an inquest, but we are without particulars. Her maiden name was Jennie McKinley, and she was a step daughter of William McIvers, of Elkport. She married Mr. Holden about two years ago. She was about 24 years old, and it seems had become despondent and in this mood committed the act.

NOTE: The surname Holden was blurred in the article and its second letter could be either an a,e,or o. The place name Moton, where she lived, starts with an Mo and has no more than two additional letters, the last of which looks like an n.
