Adolph Schlitter was born in Marso, Langeburg, Germany, November 18, 1839. He was united in marriage with Karoline Alvina Zieso, November 15, 1862. In 1869 he and his family immigrated into this country and made their home in Chicago, Illinois for a few months, living with relatives. In the same year they moved to Linton Township in Allamakee County, Iowa where they resided ever since.

Brother Schlitter was a charter member of the Watson congregation of the Evangelical Association. For many years he was the exhortor of the class and served also as Sunday School Superintendent for some terms. For the latter years in his life, Brother Schlitter was not able to attend church services regularly on account of suffering from injury received in former years. About two years ago the suffering of the Brother multiplied by total blindness. On Thursday morning, December 16, 1915 the angel of death came to release the suffering. He leaves to mourn him his beloved wife, three daughters and six sons: They are: Mrs. Martin Franck of Linton Township, Mrs. Charles Topel of Linton Township, Herman Schlitter, at home, Mrs. Fred Fett of Linton Township, Theodore Schlitter of near Monona, Albert Schlitter, Will Schlitter, and John Schlitter of Linton Township, and Emil Schlitter of Franklin Township; thirty-four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at the Watson Church Sunday, December 19th where E.G. Glaeser, the pastor, officiated and was assisted by C.H. Linn. The body was laid to rest at the Council Hill Cemetery at Watson, Iowa.
