Garnavillo, Ia. - Funeral services were conducted here Thursay morning at 10:30 o'clock at St. Joseph's Church for William Berns, 62, who died suddenly Monday afternoon. The Rev. Henry Scharphoff, pastor, officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Berns was born Feb. 19, 1880, in Clayton County, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Berns. He was married to Lular Walleser and they farmed in this vicinity. His death occurred at the home of his aged father, for whom he had been caring. Death was due to a heart attack.
Mr. Berns is survived by his widow, his father, nine children, Mrs. Ray Kann and Mrs. Ray Sageuling, both of Rutheven; Mrs. Edward Miller, Mrs. Leander Heck, Mrs. Albert Cherney, and Betty, all of St. Paul; Noreen of Cedar Rapids, Kenneth of Spencer, and Wilford; one brother, Ben; and two sisters, Mrs. E. Hoeger and Mrs. G.H.H. Schulte, all of Garnavillo. He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother.
