Louisa Marie Glawe was born on May 2, 1883 in Read Township, Clayton County, Iowa to Gottfried and Maria, nee John, Polkow.
She was educated in the rural schools of Read Township.
She was baptized into the Christian faith on December 23, 1883 and confirmed in her faith on March 29, 1896 by the Rev. F. W. Seifert of Clayton Center. For many years, she, with her family, have been members of Peace Church in Elkader.
On January 9, 1907, she was united in marriage with Herman Glawe at Clayton Center by Rev. Birkhart. The couple moved to the farm in Boardman Township where they lived all their married life. To them were born 9 children.
Her husband passed away in 1935 and one son died in infancy.
Though in declining health for some years, she was able to participate in family activities with her children until illness came ten days ago. It was at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ewald Thiese, that death came to her in her sleep early in the morning of May 2, 1961, on her 78th birthday.
She is survived by eight children: Edwin of Clayton; Rosina, Mrs. Albert Fette, Mabel, Mrs. Ewald Thiese, Harold and Harley, all of St. Olaf; Amanda, Mrs. Harold Ihde, Berniece, Mrs. Orville Johnson, both of Farmersburg; and Hattie, Mrs. Roy Lembke of Elkader; also 29 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
