Funeral services for MaLloyd Mueller, 85, of Elkader were held Friday, June 14, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg with Rev. Bruce Hanson officiating. Burial with military rites was at East Side Cemetery in Elkader. Casket bearers were John Klosterboer, Ronnie Mueller, Jeff Carroll, Jeff Walch, Pat Carroll, and Brad Glawe. Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, was in charge of arrangements.
He was born May 22, 1917, in Wagner Township, St. Olaf, Iowa, son of Marvin Carl and Amanda (Kluth) Mueller. He was baptized June 28, 1917, and confirmed May 24, 1931, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. He attended grade school at Farmersburg and graduated from Farmersburg High School on May 22, 1935. He also attended Elkader Jr. College.
He was united in marriage to Clarion Walter, July 1, 1939, at Cedar Rapids. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946, serving in the South Pacific during World War II.
In his earlier years, MaLloyd owned and operated a DX Service Station in Farmersburg. From 1947 to 1963, he worked for Costigan Construction. He was police chief in Elkader from 1963 to 1969. MaLloyd retired in May of 1981 after 12 years of employment with Elkader Wire and Display.
He was a former member of Central School Board of Directors, Peace United Church of Christ Council and Elkader Lions, had served as president of Four Oaks Golf and Country Club, and had been a longtime member of the Lemka-Stendel American Legion Post #106 and the V.F.W. He died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, following a sudden illness.
He is survived by a son, Tom (Carol) Mueller of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Tammy (Frank) Krueger of Omaha, Neb.; a grandson, Nathan Mueller of Palm Beach, Calif.; and special friend, Milly Walch of Elkader.
His wife; his parents; a brother, Orval, and a sister, Arlene Knapp, preceded him in death.
