Postville Herald, Thursday, 3 November 1921.
Carl Fred Meyer was born the 17th day of January, 1860, at Hanover, Germany. At the age of 14 years he came to America with his parents, two brothers and one sister. His early manhood was spent in Grand Meadow township, in which community he eventually made his permanent home.
On the 24th of February, 1884, he was united in marriage to Sophia Stopperan. This union was blessed with five children.
The deceased was an industrious, conscientious and highly respected resident of Grand Meadow township. About a year ago, his health failing, he underwent an operation which seemed to benefit him to some extent, but his former health and strength were never restored. His death, although not unexpected, because of his failing health, nevertheless came as a shock when at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday last, while seated on a couch at his home, he suddenly passed away.
St. Paul's Lutheran church has lost a faithful member and the community a man well beloved and highly respected.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife and the following children: Mrs. Wm. Baltz; Mrs. Victor Meyer, of Monona; Mrs. Fred Heusman; Covert Meyer; Glen Meyer, at home; also two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Meyer, of Postville, and Mrs. Henry Klemp of Algona; a brother, Wm. Meyer of Algona; besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
His age was 61 years, 9 months and 9 days.
The funeral was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday from St. Paul's Lutheran church, the Rev. E. Schmidt officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
