John Joseph, son of Frank Sr. and Anna (Seibert) Amling, was born October 25, 1902 at Elkport, Iowa, where he spent his entire life. He was educated in Elkport Public School. He was baptized and confirmed, and remained a life long member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. John served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked for many farmers over the years. He enjoyed being outdoors, and playing cards. He was a member of the Colesburg American Legion Post until entering the care center. For the past five years he has resided at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa, where he died on Sunday, May 26, 1996 at the age of ninety-three. He is survived by a sister Charlotte O'Brien of Strawberry Point, Iowa; a brother Louis Amling of Mason City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Anna Preston, Minnie Baker and Alice Amling who died as a child; and a brother Frank Amling Jr.Honorary Bearers:
