Marquette, Ia. - John O'Brien, 72, Milwaukee railroad engineer, in railroad service 56 years on the Iowa and Dakota division of the Milwaukee, died suddenly of a heart attack Wednesday afternoon on the station platform at Marquette, just as he stepped from his engine, after completing his day's run.

Services will be at St. Mary's church in McGregor at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Prairie du Chien, Wis.

He was born in Nora Springs, Ia., son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim O'Brien. His father was employed in building the line of the I and D division, which at the time had been completed as far as Nora Springs.

He started railroading when he was 16, serving as call boy at Mason City, and after living there and at Calmar several years, the couple came to Marquette, and this had been his home for the 41 years since. They were the parents of 10 children, one of whom died in infancy.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, of the Knights of Columbus, and the Marquette Lions' club, and served on the Marquette council 14 years.

Mrs. O'Brien died seven years ago. His second wife, the former Bernadette Hauber, of Calmar, survives and nine sons and daughters: Lester O'Brien, Prairie du Chien, Wis.; Earl O'Brien, Mason City; Mrs. Am O'Neill, Dubuque; Mrs. Narcellus Frommelt, Charles City; and Mrs. Eugene Eberhart, Guttenberg; Mrs. Esther De Muthe, Prairie du Chien, Wis.; William O'Brien, Austin, Minn.; and Joseph O'Brien and Daniel O'Brien, both of whom are in the marines in the South Pacific. There are 16 grandchildren.

~Note: typed as it appeared in the paper, but it reads almost as if a part about his 1st marriage was left out.
