John Cayton, who for many years had been an inmate of the Iowa state hospital at Independence, passed away at that institution at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Cayton was aged abut 79 years. His early life was spent with his parents near Ridley on what is now the Mrs. Anna Staadt farm.
John Waters, who has been Mr. Cayton’s guardian for a long period of years, accompanied by Undertaker Louis Schutte, drove to Independence today after the body, which will be brought to this city, where on Saturday morning at ten o’clock funeral services will be held at the chapel over the Schutte store, after which the remains will be taken to Grand Meadow cemetery for interment by the side of his parents.

John Cayton, son of James C. and Tabitha Cayton, was born in Grand Meadow township, Clayton county, Iowa, August 18, 1849, and departed this life on February 20, 1929, at Independence, Iowa, aged 79 years, seven months and two days. His parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by one nephew, C.L. Cayton of Rice Lake, Wis., and three nieces, Mrs. May Lindeman of Sullivan, Ohio; Mrs. Alice J. Hill of Finley, Ohio, and Mrs. Netina Pearson Cady of Tulsa Oklahoma, with other distant relatives and many friends. He was the last member of his family. His entire life with the exception of a few months was spent in the vicinity of Postville. The funeral services were held in the Schutte funeral chapel at 10 a.m. last Saturday, Rev. D.F. Myers officiating. Interment in the family plot in Grand Meadow cemetery.
