Postville Review, Sat., 8 Nov. 1890.

It is with deep regret that we announce the death of James McKinley, of Grand Meadow township, which occurred on Tuesday night. He has been ailing for several months and for some weeks his death has been expected almost any time. Mr. McKinley was a prominent man in Clayton county, having held the office of county supervisor and other minor positions, and in all his life, both public and private, held the respect and esteem of all who knew him. The family and friends have our earnest sympathy in their great affliction.

Ex-Supervisor James McKinley, died at his home in Grand Meadow township, on Tuesday evening, after a long sickness. Last winter he suffered from an attack of LaGrippe, which developed a lung trouble. He had the best of medical attendance and care, but the disease undermined his constitution, and he was called form his earthly labors.

Mr. McKinley was born in Ireland, March 25th, 1834, and consequently was 66 years, 7 months and 9 days of age at the time of his death. He came to the United States in 1852, settling in Connecticut.

In 1857 he went to California, but returned to Connecticut in 1862, and on September 15th of that year he was married Mary McNamare, who with six children, survive him.

In the fall of 1862, Mr. McKinley came to Iowa and settled on the farm in Grand Meadow township where his death occurred. During his residence of nearly a third of a century in Clayton county he has always been known as an honorable upright man and has made hosts of friends throughout the county. In 1883 he was elected a member of the Board of Supervisors, which office he filled in a manner acceptable to all who had dealings with him.

His death is a public loss and will be universally mourned throughout the county. The funeral takes place today, Thursday, from the Catholic church in Clermont, of which he was a consistent member.
