Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, for Mrs. Amanda I. Sebastian, who died November 23 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated.
Amanda Ida (Gericke) Sebastian, the daughter of John and Marie (Klinge) Gericke, was born January 11, 1890 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa.
Amanda was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church, October 7, 1890 and confirmed on April 5, 1903 and remained a life-long member of the congregation.
On January 26, 1910 she was married to William H. Sebastian and to this union 3 children were born. She lived her entire married life on the farm north of Luana where son Lyle now lives. Following the death of her husband in 1947, she moved to Postville and cared for her brother John for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson Roger William Sebastian, a great granddaughter Kelly Sue Pollock; 4 brothers, William, Fred, Henry and John and 5 sisters, Mrs. Chris (Ida) Meyer, Mrs. Wendell (Bertha) Wagner, Mrs. Otto (Amelia) Sander, Mrs. Ben (Senda) Morch and Mathilda.
She is survived by 2 sons, Harold of Dubuque and Lyle of Luana; a daughter Palma, Mrs. Starr Baade, of Monona, 9 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
