Opal Faye Schroeder

Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Schroeder were held Monday, February 12, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Robert Hupp officiated. Priscilla Miene was the organist. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Opal Faye Schroeder was one of ten children born to Gottlieb and Rose (Hofer) Dennler. She was born September 29, 1923, in Clayton County near Elgin, Iowa. She passed away Friday night, February 9, 2001 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. She had reached the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 10 days.

She was baptized in the Baptist church at Elgin and transferred her membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church on June 6, 1946. Opal attended the rural schools near her home and graduated from the Elgin High School.

On April 25, 1942 Opal was married to Willard August Schroeder at Kahoka, Missouri. To this union 2 sons were born. They lived in the Castalia area for 18 years. In 1963 they built their house in Postville on Oak Street. Opal became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville on January 1, 2001.

She loved to cook and bake and made many coffee cakes which she gave away to friends and neighbors.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willard, who died September 26, 1990, a son Marvin Schroeder, sisters Alta Frieden, Anna Lehman, Florence Dennler, and a sister, Lillian, who died in infancy, brothers Ben Dennler, Sam Dennler, Clarence Dennler, and Emil (Mike) Dennler.

Surviving is her son, Robert Schroeder, of Postville, Iowa, a daughter-in-law Sheryl (Butikofer) Schroeder, of Clermont, Iowa, a sister Mabel Gehring, of Maplewood, Minnesota, and many friends and neighbors.

Casket bearers were Albert L. Dennler, Gene Lehman, Tom Gehring, Jack Gehring, Roger Meyer, Byron Meyer, Bruce Meyer, Jack Dennler, and Terry Meyer.
