Sarah M. White was born at South Nero, Vt. May 3rd, 1843. She came to Iowa in 1860 and settled in Volga.
She was married to Homer Drake in 1863. To them two children were born, one of whom, Mrs. Mattie Hayes, is still living. Mr. Drake died in April, 1870.
In April 1872, she married Geo. Cummings. To them two children were born, one of whom is living, Mrs. Ala Byam, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Hugh Cummings, an adopted son, is also living at Sioux Rapids.
In May, 1899 they moved to Sioux Rapids, where Mr. Cummings died in 1903. Since then she has made her home with her daughter. Six weeks ago she left Volga for a visit to Sioux Rapids, and was taken sick soon after arriving there. She died Dec. 26th, and was buried in Volga City cemetery on Friday, Dec 29th.
In 1868 she united with the Free Will Baptist church of Volga City. The children of Mrs. Cummings were all at her bedside at her death.

Mr. and Mrs. Byam and Hugh Cummings, Sioux Rapids, Ia. were here to attend the funeral of their mother.The friends of Mrs. Geo. Cummings were very much surprised to hear of her death, which occurred Tuesday morning, at Sioux Rapids. She left here six weeks ago to visit her caughter, Mrs. Byam, nee Cummings.
