Tuesday morning a message was received announcing the death of Gardner McGregor at his home in Chicago. He had been for some time in poor health but his condition was not thought serious, and his death was a shock to his friends here.
The interment was on the family lot in the cemetery at Prairie du Chien. Several of his friends here attended the funeral, among them W.R. Kinnaird and Q.A. Sloane.
Gardner McGregor was born in McGregor, March 14, 1848, and was the son of Alexander and Ann (Gardner) McGregor. In May 1869, he married Emma Lurck, of Hudson, N.Y. One child blessed their union, Eloise, who with her mother now mourn his death.
Mr. McGregor was a man, staunch and upright in principle, highly respected and beloved. He lived as a farmer near Monona until a few years ago, when he sold out and went to Chicago to live.
The NEWS voices the sentiment of the community when it deplores the loss of a good man and expresses heartfelt sympathies for the bereaved family.
