MONONA: Funeral services for J. William Kregel, aged 82, were held at 1:45 from the Kregel home and at 2:00 from St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Saturday afternoon with burial in the Lutheran cemetery, the Rev. H.W. Siefkes officiating.
Surviving Mr. Kregel are his widow, Mrs. Pauline R. Kregel; one daughter, Mrs. Amanda Kruse, and two brothers, E.W. Kregel of Garnavillo, and August Kregel of Monona; also three grandchildren, Gerald W. Kruse of Ely, Minn., Pauline Kruse of Adair, and John Edward Kruse, student at Ames, Iowa.
Mr. Kregel was born and reared at Garnavillo, and was married to Miss Pauline R. Dickman, March 25, 1879, soon after settling on a farm near Monona, and in 1903 moved to Monona where they lived the last thirty-four years.
Mr.Kregel was an important factor in the development of the town, active in social, civic and religious circles, and doing his full share to promote every improvement that has taken place. He was a devoted member of the Lutheran church all his life. He served as township trustee, city councilman, and a director and officer of the Monona State Bank. His well-kept home, lawn and garden attracted the attention of visitors for many years. He helped organize and was an ardent supporter of the Monona Garden club. In his younger days Mr. Kregel enjoyed traveling and also fishing.
Monona has indeed lost an outstanding citizen, and the community extends its sympathy to the widow, daughter and brother in their loss.
