Postville Review, Fri., 21 Mar. 1902.

On last Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock, little Marguerite, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Meier, of Farmersburg, Iowa, fell asleep, never more to wake on this earth. At the tender age of 8 years*, 5 months and 5 days, she was called to join the angelic throng. She had been sick but ten days. At first nothing serious was apprehended, but soon pneumonia developed and she was found to be beyond medical aid.

Marguerite was a bright, happy and cheerful child, the delight of her parents and a favorite with all who knew her. Sad are the hearts of the parents and relatives, but they have the consolation that she is resting in the arms of her Savior, and one of the jewels of heaven's bright crown. "The Lord giveth and the Lord hath taken away."

Funeral services were held at the German Lutheran church in Farmersburg, Iowa, Monday, March 17, 1902, Rev. Braun officiating.

(There followed a lengthy poem.)

*Note: Her gravestone gives dates 10/9/1893 - 3/14/1902. The age 8yrs given in the obit is incorrect.

Elkader Register, Thur., 27 Mar. 1902. Farmersburg column.

Friday evening, March 14th, death entered the home of C. F. Meier and wife and took from them their only child and daughter Marguerite. It came as a sad surprise to the entire community. She had been sick for several days but not considered dangerous until a few hours before her death. Marguerite was an exceptionally bright little girl of about three and one-half years. The little white casket covered with flowers was a fitting emblem of the loved one they adored. There were six young girls dressed in white, four acting as pall bearers and two as flower girls. The funeral services were held at the church, Monday afternoon, at one o'clock, conducted by Rev. Braun. The parents and relatives have the sympathy of all in their bereavement. The little one was laid to rest in the Farmersburg cemetery.
