MRS. J.R. McCONNELL, A FORMER RESIDENT, BURIED HERE SUNDAY
Margaret Matilda Hall was born near Edgewood on August 17, 1862, the daughter of John Hall and his wife, Elizabeth Hall. On January 1, 1877 she was married to B. Nelson and their home was on the farm between here and Wood now owned and occupied by the Allie Barnes family. Mr. Nelson died on June 11, 1911. They were the parents of nine children, two of whom died in infancy.
During World War 1 the son, Claude was inducted into the army. When he left home the mother promised that she would keep a light in the window every night to guide him home. Claude died at Camp Dodge on Oct. 19, 1918, but the grieving mother kept the light burning for 25 years until the light of her life was extinguished last week.
On January 29, 1915 Mrs. Nelson united in marriage with James R. McConnell. They lived at Edgewood and Greeley until 1920 when they moved to Delhi where they have lived since.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Delhi Sunday afternoon in charge of the Rev. Dwight C. Bonham. Burial was in the Edgewood cemetery.
Surviving to mourn her death are five daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Stella Peick of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Bertha Woolcott, Hopkinton, Mrs. Clare Engles of Puyaulupp, Wash., Mrs. Roland Mutphy, Mrs. Adolph Swee and Fred Nelson of Delhi.
