Henry Conrad Meyer was born at Husum, Hanover, Germany, Feb 14, 1847, and died Thursday, June 9, 1925, at 2:30 a. m. in Cresco. When 18 years of age he came to America, locating in Clayton county, Iowa, where he was employed on the railroad. He married Oct. 11, 1879, to Elizabeth Suhrbier and resided in Clayton county until 1890 when he went to Saratoga, where he rented a farm and lived for four years. he then purchased a farm home of his own between Saratoga and Davis Corners and continued farming until the poor health of his wife compelled him to retire and in 1910 they moved to Cresco. His wife died in 1912 and since that time he and his daughter Emma have made their home together.
Last January his health began to fail and gradually without any pain whatsoever his life ebbed away.
One son, three daughters, besides one aged sister, Mrs. Eberling of Postville survive him.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. John Pless and the body was laid to rest beside that of his wife in the Saratoga cemetery.
