MAURY JOHN ENGELHARDT

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 23, 1977 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Prairie du Chien for Maury Engelhardt, who died on August 21, 1977 at the age of 70 years, 2 months, 24 days.

Rev. J. A. Speerstra officiated. Special music was provided by Ronald Meyer, nephew of Maury.

Burial was in the Luana Lutheran Cemetery, where military rites were conducted by American Legion posts of Monona and McGregor.

Maury John Engelhardt, son of George and Emma Meyer Engelhardt, was born May 28, 1907 in St. Olaf, Iowa. He passed away at home in McGregor. He had been ill the past few years with a heart condition.

Maury was baptized October 27, 1907 at St. John's Lutheran in Farmersburg, Iowa and confirmed April 30, 1922 at St. John's lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Prairie du Chien, Wis.

He was married to Frances M. Henderson August 26, 1927 and there were six children born to this union.

Mr. Engelhardt was a feed salesman until he entered military service on March 17, 1944. He was captured during a central European campaign and was imprisoned six months in Germany, where he sustained an injury that left him disabled.

Surviving are two sons: Daryl Engelhardt, Rochester, Minn. and David Engelhardt, McGregor and four daughters: Mrs. Martin Meadows (Marilyn), Potomac, Md., Mrs. LaVerne Landt (Norma), Luana, Mrs. Marvin Engel (Shirley), Mt. Vernon, and Mary Jo Engelhardt, Cedar Falls, 15 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

He is also survived by two brothers: Irving Engelhardt, Moline, Ill., Pastor Gerald Engelhardt, Humboldt, and two sisters: Mrs. Lance Candee, (Mildred) and Mrs. Glen Meyer (Bernice), Postville.

Maury was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Engelhardt, one sister, Mrs. Walter Garms (Florence), and one grandchild, John Engelhardt.
