MILTON F. SCHLEIN

Milton F. Schlein, D. C., of Fayette, formerly of Postville, was born Jan. 27, 1926 in Froelich, Iowa to parents Conrad and Rose Elizabeth Klotzbach Schlein. He died Sunday morning, July 11, in Palmer Memorial Hospital in West Union after a brief illness. He was 67.

He graduated from Monona High School. Between serving two tours of duty in the U. S. Navy, Dr. Schlein completed his studies at Logan Basic College of Chiropractic, and did his post-graduate work at National Chiropractic College in Chicago. He owned and practiced at the Postville Chiropractic Clinic from 1951 to 1988. After retiring from there, he founded the Fayette Chiropractic Clinic, and practiced there from 1988 to 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Schlein; and one sister, Hildegard Schlein Timmerman. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; his brother, Burton Peter Schlein of Monona; his two children, Dennis of Waverly and Roxanne Kerr and son-in-law Ken of Overland Park, Kan; and his two chosen daughters, Deb Stanberg of Apple Valley, Minn., and Cindy Schmitt of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are his two stepsons, David and Don DeHaven, both of Oelwein. Dr. Schlein was blessed with 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was very active in the communities where he lived. In Fayette, he was a member of the American Legion, the Lions, the chamber of commerce, and was secretary of the Fayette Development corporation. He served on the board of the Fayette united Methodist Church. While in Postville, Dr. Schlein served on the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists and the Iowa Chiropractic Board of Examiners. He was also a member of the Postville Community School Board, president of the Postville Kiwanis, and finance chairman of the Allamakee County Republican Party.

He will be remembered for his abounding energy and enthusiasm, his humor, his kind and generous nature, and his exceptional healing abilities.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 13 at the United Methodist Church in Fayette, the Rev. Thomas Biatek officiating. The organist was Sue Martin, the soloist Ken Timmerman. Robert Jones played the saxophone. Eulogies were given by Mrs. David Thayer (Pattie), Dr. Bill Armentrout, and Pastor Albert Ilack. Casket bearers were Lavern Stumme, Paul Braham, Delbert Suckow, Charles Webb, Dr. Paul Moser, and Loren Welsh. Honorary casket bearers were Dr. Tom Greenwalt, Dr. Louis Eggers, Dr. Gerald Bauer, Dr. Eugene Vorman, Dr. Don Strutt, and Andy Kroeger. Military rites were given by the Fayette American legion. Burial was at the Grandview Cemetery in Fayette.
