JOHN J. SCHLAKE
Funeral services were held from St. Paul Lutheran, Garnavillo, on Tuesday, July 17, for John Schlake, 88, who died on July 14, 1973, after a lingering illness.
Officiating at the services was Rev. L. C. Urlaub. Pallbearers were Floyd Schroeder, Verdis Schlake, Merle Schlake, Keith Thoma, Delos Hamann & Parmer Schlake. Burial was in the Garnavillo City Cemetery.
John J. Schlake was born on December 22, 1884, in Garnavillo, to Henry and Elizabeth (Wilker) Schlake. He was married in 1908 to Carrie Loseske in Guttenberg.
His survivors are a son, Leighton, of Postville, and 3 daughters: Mrs. Louis (Bernita) Schrandt of Monona, Mrs. Aldo (Bernadene) Hagen of Sterling, Ill., and Mrs. Edward (Faye) Vorwald of Garnavillo, and 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Thoma of Garnavillo and a brother, Victor, of Waterville.
