Services for Donald Montgomery Sr. were held Wednesday, September 8, 1982, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona, with Father Charles Shirman officiating. Pallbearers were John Montgomery, Mark Meyer, Marlyn Henderson, Willis Tielbar, Robert Grady and William Qark. Burial was in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemtery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Donald Francis Montgomery Sr.,the son of George Washington and Anna (Holly) Montgomery, was born January 1, 1915 at Marquette, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed In the Catholic faith. He received his education in the Monona Public School, was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona.
He joined the US Navy during World War II. He was also a member of the Amvets Post 27 and Lodge 412, Brother of Maintenance of Way Employees.
On February 9, 1935 he was united in marriage to Ann Lechnir at St. John's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, Wisc. To this union three sons and three daughters were born. He worked for the CMSTP & P Railroad from 1928 to 1959.
He died Sunday, September 5, 1982 at Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wisc., having reached the age of 67 years, 8 months, 4 days. Preceeding him in death were his parents, his brother Geroge and sister Arlene Lestina.
Surviving him is his wife Ann; his three daughters Mrs. Frederick (Shirley) Meyer and Mrs. Richard (Norma) Asleson, both of Monona, and Mrs. Clarence (Marilyn) Thompson, Soldiers Grove, Wisc.; three sons Donald Jr., and Jym, both of Monona, and Thomasas, of Martinez. Georgia; five grandchildren, Linda, John, Mark, Donald, Richard; one brother John of Austin, Minn.; two sisters, Margaret Lettington, Marion, Iowa, Anna Mae Damon of Tuscan, Arizona; many nieces and nephews.
THANK YOU: We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to our many friends, relatives and neighbors for your comforting words, gifts of food, flowers and prayers. Our hearts go out with special praise and admiration to the M-F-L ambulance and its entire crew, the Schultz Funeral Home, the pallbearers, the Amvets Post, the church ladies circle, the doctors and nurses at the Memorial Hospital in Prairie and the Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, to Father Scherman for his great comfort and services provided to our family, to Father Bohr and the Prairie du Chien and LaCrosse, Wisc. priests and nuns for their many prayers and acts of comfort.
You are wonderful people, for all you have done for us. Without your kindness and thoughtfulness our loss would be much harder to bear. You will all remain in our prayers and we love you.
