Services Held For Leska C. Martins

Funeral services were conducted (today) Wednesday, August 12, at 10:30 a.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana, for Leska C. Martins, who died Sunday, August 9, in the Postville Community Hospital. He was hospitalized August 4 having suffered a heart attack. The Rev. John Mohr officiated.

Leska C. Martins, son of John and Mary Klinkenberg Martins, was born February 15, 1893 in Grand Meadow township, Clayton County, Iowa. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church, June 25, 1893 at Clayton Center by the Rev. F. W. Seifert, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Luana by the Rev. W. Paulsen, May 24, 1907.

He was raised in Clayton County where he attended the school in Grand Meadow Township. January 28, 1920 he was married to Alta Marie Wilhelmina Brandtman at her parents home. The couple farmed seven miles southwest of Luana until they retired to Luana in 1955 and lived in the house his father built.

Mr. Martins was a member of the Luana Lutheran Cemetery Association and served as trustee for the St. John's Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alta, June 5, 1965, a brother John J. Martins, his parents, a son Delmer, who died at birth and a grandson Dwight T. Cowell.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Harry (Delores) Larson, Ossian; Mrs. Eldred (Darlene) Nuehring, Postville; Mrs. Della L. Cowell, Luana; four sons, Donald, of Fairbank; Delos, of Monona; Delbert and Duane, of Luana. Also, four sisters, Mrs. Gust (Anna) Lenth and Mrs. Roy (Eva) Saacke, Farmersburg; Mrs. Walter (Elsie) Tietz, Postville; Mrs. Wm. F. (Mary) Radloff, Luana; 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in the Luana cemetery.
