1863-1945
Funeral Services Held Saturday for Willia D. Sevey
Funeral services for Willis Devillo Sevey were held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church in Edgewood. Rev. A. H. Meyers had charge of the services. Music was furnished by the male quartette composed of Ray Minkler, Fred Smith, R. C. Cocking and Claude Rulon, accompanied by Mrs. Velma Bonham. They sang "Going Down the Valley" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me." The pallbearers were O. H. Berens, Jess Gleason, Fred Sherman, Dewey Beddow, George Pilgrim and Chib Robison. Burial was made in the Edgewood cemetery.

Wilis Devillo Sevey, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sevey, was born November 16, 1863 at Penfield, Ohio and ended his sojourney in this world of time and change at the home of his daughter, Florence in Oelwein, Iowa on Wednesday, June 13, 1945, being suddenly stricken with a heart attack which proved fatal. The deceased had attained the age of 81 years, six months and 27 days.

At the age of five years Mr. Sevey came with his parents from Ohio to the state of Wisconsin, after residing there for a short time, they came to the state of Iowa and located at Otisville, where the boy grew to young manhood and developed those sterling qualities of character that made him beloved and respected as a man among men. He attended the rural public school and availed himself of every opportunity to develope his education so as to give leadership to his own life's career and be of some help in directing others to attain their goal. He was friendly and beloved, respected by all who knew him. He was a good citizen, a good father to his children who will miss him in the days that lie ahead, a loving and devoted husband to his wife, he tried to make the most out of life, in this he suceeded.

Sorrow came to his home when on the 18th of September, 1934 his life's companion was suddenly taken from his side and transferred to her heavenly home. Beside his wife, one son, Glen O. Sevey and one daughter, Mrs. Vera E. Moser were awaiting husband and father on the brighter side of the Mystic River.

On February 7, 1887 at York, Iowa, Rev. John Lash, a well known minister of the United Brethren faith conducted the required marital service, closing by pronouncing W. O. Sevey and Miss Elzina Smith husband and wife.

This worthy and respected couple maintained an unbroken residence in Clayton county until the year 1910. It was during that year a new home was established on land purchased in Texas. After living there three years a return was made to Iowa. Three years were spent in farming before they returned to Texas. After one more year spent in that state they were at home agin in Clayton county, Iowa. The last change was arranged principally on account of the impaired health of Mrs. Sevey.

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Sevey embraced four sons and three daughters. The following remain to mourn the death of their father: Mrs. Blanche Weyant of Edgewood, Ray A. Sevey, Puente, Calif., Floyd W. Sevey, Los Angeles, Calif., Lynn E. Sevey, Oelwein, Iowa, and Mrs. Florence B. Weyant, Oelwein, Iowa. Two brothers, Orlando, Englewood, Calif., and Harry of Taylorsville, Ill. Four sisters, Addie Annis of Pasadena, Calif., Nellie Cross, Park Falls, Wis., Nettie Lewis, Hannibal, Wis., and Agnes Elliott, Ryan, Iowa. Thirteen grandchildren and nine great granchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.
Since the death of Mrs. Sevey, Mr. Sevey has made his home with one or the other of his children, staying bt far the larger part of the time with his daughter, Blanche Weyant.
