Guttenberg Press, located in Guttenberg, Iowa. (Clayton County) January 20, 1897.

Death of John Devlin.

Word was received in town Monday afternoon that John Devlin, had died at 1 o'clock. The following particulars were learned from his friends:

Born Dec. 20, 1811. in Cavan, Ireland. Came to America to Baltimore in 1842. Was married to Miss Margaret Monahan (ed. Monaghan), who survives him, in 1844. Came to Guttenberg in 1855. The children living are John, Mary (ed. Henry), Lewis and Wm. Date for the funeral has not been set. The old man had been quite a globe-trotter in his day. Had been to Australia, made several excursions to California in the early days, and was quite a traveled man.
