Karlyn J. Voelzke
Petty Officer 3rd Class Karlyn J. Voelzke, son of Jason and Kathleen (Pixler) Voelzke, was born June 2, 1969 at Postville, Iowa. He died Monday, August 15, 1994 at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, as a result of an accident. He was 25 years old.
He was baptized June 24, 1969 at home in St. Paul's Lutheran faith, Monona, Iowa by Rev. Robert Langholz. He received his First Communion on May 4, 1980.
Karlyn graduated from MFL Community School, Monona, in 1987. He joined the U. S. Navy in November of 1987. He was most recently stationed at Glenview Naval Air Station, Glenview, Ill.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandfather, Carlton Voelzke and his maternal grandfather, Glen Pixler.
Survivors include his parents, Jason and Kathleen Voelzke of Monona; a sister and brother-in-law, Angela Voelzke and Bret Ammons of St. Charles, Illinois; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Edna Voelzke of Monona; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Vera Pixler of Luana; an uncle, Audene Voelzke of Maquoketa, Iowa; and uncle and aunt, Daniel and Kathleen Pixler of Luana, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A private funeral service for AD3 Karlyn Voelzke was held Friday, August 19, 1994 at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona.
