Conduct Rites For Dr. Harry D. Cole

Funeral services were held at St. Bridget's Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 4 at 11 a.m. for Dr. Harry D. Cole who passed away November 1, 1969, following a short illness. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Cletus Hawes and concelebrated by Msgr. Vernon Peters of Ossian. Dr. Cole's grandsons were pallbearers.

Dr. Harry Dean Cole was born at McGregor, Iowa, November 13, 1888. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1911. He joined his father Dr. William Cole in practice the same year.

He was married June 30, 1915 to Rose A. Shaffer of Cascade at St. Martins Catholic Church. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1965.

Dr. Cole was a member of the N. E. Iowa Dental Society and the American Dental Association. He was an active conservationist and sportsman as indicated by his life membership in the National Rifle Association, the Isaac Walton League and Ducks Unlimited. He was a member of the PSI Omega Dental Fraternity (Life), past member of the KCs and Elks. He was a member of St. Bridget's Parish, past member of the Postville Community school board, Commercial Club and served the city council from 1932-38. He retired from Dentistry, December 31, 1960 after serving the Postville Community for nearly 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Wm. and Kathryn Lee Cole, brothers Lee Allen and Merle William. He is survived by his wife Rose, sons Harry D. of Decorah and William of Charles City; daughters Jane (Mrs. John A. Walsh) Westchester, Illinois and Margaret (Mrs. F. J. Heaverlo) of Cedar Rapids and one sister Anna (Mrs. L. O. Beucher).

Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
